It’s All About The Celebrity Endorsers

Tuesday, January 15th, 2008

America FerreraAmber Tamblyn
It’s 2008 and that means its time for every celebrity in Hollywood to start telling us why we need to vote for their favorite candidate for president. Now I for one am so happy that finally, we get to get rid of George W. Bush but when celebrities get involved they same to do more harm then good. Just having certain celebrities endorse your campaign is enough to make anyone who dislikes them angry enough to vote for the other guy.

Now America Ferrera has gotten involved in the presidential race. Both she and Amber Tamblyn (Joan of Arcadia) have announced their official support of Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton. Together they will serve as national co-chairs of the “Hillblazers” the youth outreach program of the Clinton campaign.

Both America Ferrera and Amber Tamblyn starred in the youth friendly film Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants and both are Emmy nominated actresses (with America Ferrera winning.) But the question remains, will their endorsement of the Clinton campaign help put our first female president in office?

Episode #8: I See Me, I.C.U.
Charm School meets Ugly Betty tonight!

Wilhelmina’s wedding was supposed to be the social event of the season. Instead it ended up more like wedding disasters caught on tape when the groom collapsed at the alter! But But alls well that ends well because you can’t keep a good villain down! Wilhelmina is already up and plotting her next move. Can she succeed and overcome this wedding debacle? Will Bradford be gullible enough to forgive her? After all he couldn’t figure out she didn’t want him in the first place. Luckily he collapsed at the wedding before saying “I Do” but Wilhelmina could still convince him even in the face of Daniel telling him she’s sleeping with the bodyguard.

Wilhelmina isn’t the only one trying to get into someone’s good graces. Henry has to use all of his charm and nerd sexy in order to get past Mode’s weekend receptionist and retrieve something of vital importance for Betty. What could be so important? Will Daniel come to his senses and rehire Betty? True she made a mistake but he needs her and he’s made his fair share of mistakes.

Comedian Mo’Nique will be starring as the weekend receptionist named L’Amanda who has a thing for Henry. This episode is worth seeing just for the kiss these two share! Theirs also the title with “I.C.U.” standing for intensive care unit and Bradford in the hosptial I assume. Stay tuned!

Around the World: News Wrap

Tuesday, November 6th, 2007

Salma goes South: Post pregnancy mommy Salma Hayek has already been cast in a new movie. Not so surprisingly considering Salma is a new mommy the film is an animated feature geared towards family. In “South of the Border” a pampered Beverly HillsChihuahua named Chloe (voiced by Drew Barrymore) gets lost while vacationing in Mexico. Salma plays her spirit guide who helps her to find her true heritage, whatever that means. Other Latin stars included in the cast are Paul Rodriguez, Andy Garcia and George Lopez.

Betty goes glamorous

America does the UK: America Ferrera looks wonderful on the cover of UK edition of Marie Claire magazine and I’m glad to say not Photoshopped! The sultry photos show the Ugly Betty star in her natural beauty. America opens up to talk about not having her father in her life, the trend to label everyone as curvy even when their super skinny and how acting helped her to make something of her life.

All “American” Girl

Thursday, September 6th, 2007

America Ferrera is no Ugly Betty on the October 2007 cover of Glamour magazine.

All “American” Girl

America Ferrera opens up to Glamour magazine in a very interesting interview. In it she discusses the changing role of Latin women in Hollywood. She discusses her first experience in being followed by the paparazzi. To bad the guy thought he was following Salma Hayek! Proving that America is truly a regular girl and not a diva she also speaks about trying to sell her furniture on Craigslist and trying not to sweat on the red carpet.

Some other bloggers have also commented on this Glamour cover and they have a lot to say! Perez Hilton has given this cover a best Photoshop Award, Jezebel is “up in arms” and Guanabee “dissects” the article to show its hiding meanings. Definitely worth giving a read.

In Now magazine America also discusses feelings of insecurities growing up because she thought she was too fat. Allegedly she used to “look in the mirror and weep, thinking I was too fat.” She goes on to say she feels beautiful today “far from the ugly duckling I appear on screen”

America Ferrera’s changing style

Monday, May 14th, 2007

America Ferrera really seems to be stepping up her dress designs. At recent events she has been flaunting a thinner frame and putting a new spin on her signature black dresses.

The basic black with white trim at the hem and gathered sleeves, cute and stylish. Worn April 30 at The Academy of Television Arts and Sciences Presents an Evening with Ugly Betty.

This dress gets my pick for best style. Its very romantic and glamorous but also very simple. Worn May 7 at The “Poiret: King of Fashion” Costume Institute Gala at The Metropolitan Museum of Art.

What better way to honor being listed on Time magazines 100 most influential people in the world list than with a change in style! This glittery brown dress is curve hugging and a nice change for America who seems most comfortable in black. Worn May 8 at the Red Carpet event for the Magazine.

Apparently if you’re America Ferrera its worth 10 million dollars! The Ugly Betty star now has her pearly whites insured by Lloyds of London. But don’t worry our favorite Ugly girl isn’t getting a big head. The policy was bought by Aquafresh White Trays (a unit of GlaxoSmithKline) on May 10 as part of a campaign to raise money for US charity Smiles for Success.

Smiles for Success is a charity program that provides free dental care to jobless women and is a Foundation of the American Association of Women Dentist. In fact you can do your part to help Smiles for Success!

From now until August 31 Aquafresh will donate a $1 for every box of white trays sold. If that isn’t enough reason to enter you could win a behind-the-scenes tour of the Ugly Betty set! Enter the Beauty that Fits sweepstakes and Aquafresh will donate a dollar for every entry. For a combined donation of $100,000!

Betty gets a Sexy Makeover

Friday, April 6th, 2007

Michael America Ferrera is on the cover of the May issue of W magazine and the photos show just how unugly she really is. In the issue America discusses everything from the tabloid rumors that she was engaged, to weight issues and her family relationships. Several excerpts from the article are listed below:

“I just felt really empty,” she says. “I had achieved my dream, and it wasn’t totally fulfilling. I still had school problems, and I still had boy problems. My life was still my life. I guess I had been waiting to be turned into a swan.” America describing how she felt when filming the Disney Channel original movie Gotta Kick It Up

“It’s totally not true!” she insists of the rumor. “And his mom called me and my sisters were calling me, and I was like, ‘Are you kidding? Did you not think I would tell you first?’ And then I put out a statement that it wasn’t true, and that became a whole news story. So now it’s news when something doesn’t happen? Like, news flash: California did not get hit by a hurricane today.” America addresses engagement rumors

The full article is only available in the magazine so be sure to pick up your copy soon! Click here to see behind the scenes footage of the photo shoot.

Profile on America Ferrera

Thursday, February 1st, 2007

You love her for Ugly Betty but America Ferrera already has a few memorable performances under her belt. At only 22 America Ferrera has already become rather well know for several coming of age movies.

In Real Women Have Curves America portrayed the intelligent Ana Garcia whose views of herself as a woman constantly come into conflict with her mother’s expectations of where her proper place should be and her own insecurities with her physical appearance. The Film won the audience award at the Sundance Film Festival.

To younger fans America might be recognizable from the Disney Channel original movie Gotta Kick it Up. A story about a middle school dance team who need to pull together and trust each other in order to win.

America followed up with The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants the movie based on the novel of the same name. In it she once again portrays a young woman who has to deal with relationship problems with a parent. This time it’s her absentee father who she hasn’t even seen since her parents divorced.
